Family

What is family? That is a question that many people ask, but they don't have a consistent answer. Some people will say family is the people your share blood with. Others will say it's the people you live with. But to me, family is the people who are there for you when you need them. They are the people that support you regardless of what you need there support on. The essay, "Stone Soup," by Barbara Kingsolver, and A Tree Grows In Brooklyn, by Betty Smith, exemplify great family values. Ohana means family, and family is forever.

The essay," Stone Soup," shows the meaning of family in many ways. One way it shows is when author Barbara Kingsolver stated, " Divorce, remarriage, single parenthood, gay parents, or blended families simply are. They are the facts of our time." This quote shows that even though divorced, remarried, gay, and blended families are not traditional, they are still as much of families as traditional families are. No families are perfect, even traditional families. I live in a traditional family and we are no where near perfect. My family is me, my mom, dad, and older sister. There are non- traditional families that are more perfect than my traditional family, but the one thing that makes every family is that we love each other. Many people feel that if a family is divorced than the family is broke, but they are not, it is just another hurdle for them to tackle as a family. People also don't agree with gay couples having children because they feel like it is unhealthy. But myself personally feel that if the parents are willing to give that child love, than they have a right to have themselves a family. She also says, "Arguing about whether non-traditional families deserve pity or tolerance is a little like the midieval debate about left-handiness as a mark of the devil." This means that people usually write off non- traditional families as bad families. People don't know whether to show pity to these people or to accept the fact that they aren't perfect. She compares it to left-handiness is a mark of the devil, because back in midieval times, if you were a lefty, you were automatically thought to be a spawn of the devil, much like non-traditional families being broken. Strong families should not let the opinions of the outside world affect them. As long as you know you have your family on your side, you will always be content. The essay, " Stone Soup," gives a very powerful message about how different non-traditional families are treated compared to traditional families.

Another example of great family values is the novel A Tree Grows In Brooklyn, by Betty Smith. A Tree Grows In Brooklyn is a novel about the trials and tribulations of a poor family living in early 20th century Brooklyn, New York. In the book, Francie says, "I will never trust any women again, except maybe mama and sometimes Aunt Evy and Aunt Sissy." This quote shows that Francie does not trust any women, except for the women in her family. This also shows that family will always be there for you to trust. They will always be there to pick you up when you are down, and they will always be there when you need them. Also, in another quote, Francie says, " My brother is next. His arm is just as dirty as mine so don't be surprised. And you don't have to tell him. You told me." This quote shows that Francie was protecting her brother from getting his feelings hurt. She knows that Neeley is not as emotionally strong as she is, so she does not want the doctor to hurt his feelings. She is watching out for his because he is her brother and she cares for him. The book, A Tree Grows In Brooklyn, it shows family many family values.

There is one clear-cut definition of family. Family is the people who you can count on. Family is the the people who pick your up when your down. Family is the people you rely on when times are tough. Family is the people who care for you the most. Family is forever and family is never ending.

About me

My name is Christian Jepson. I am a 14 year old that lives in the suburbs of Massachusetts. I have named my blog, Sauce Castillo, because I will be posting about the sauciest of castillos. What is a castillo you might ask? A castillo is the wild card of the English language. A castillo can be any verb, noun, adjective, or pronoun you can thing of. Most people won't find this definition in the english dictionary, but that is because you write the definitions in your own, natural dictionary, your brain. My nickname is actually Sauce Castillo, but some people (everyone) calls me Christian. I am infatuated with sports. I love the game of American football. My favorite player of all-time is the G.O.A.T. Tom Brady. I also have a staggering love for the sports of hockey, soccer, and basketball. My favorite hockey team is the Boston Bruins. I play hockey for the Bantam 1's, and I am the teams starting center. My favorite basketball team are the celtics. I have posters in my room of, " The Truth" , A.K.A Paul Pierce. Even though I love these sports, I don't thing I will have the height to play these sports. I am 5' 5" and the doctor predicts that I am going to be 5' 7". Although I do not believe I will be that short, I still believe I won't be tall enough. My mother is 5' 1" and my father is 5' 9". My mother and father are the most important people to me. My mother is a loving nurse, and my father is a carpenter who survived stage 4 melanoma. I also have a sister, who is not that important to me. I know it sounds mean to say, but I cannot stand my sister. Me and my sister are like fire and ice, cats and dogs, or black to white. We do not get along at all and always spark intense arguments. I have many friends, but I have little people in my inner circle. My inner circle consists of my friends Ryan and Renato, but my inner circle is starting to get a little more broad. I am very funny, straightforward, short fused, and relaxed. This is me. This is who Christian Jepson is, in other words, Christian Jepson is... castillo.

Sacredness of the ordinary

The sport of true lions. This sport is played by pure stallions. This sport is dominated by the smart, insightful, and wittiest of people. This sport is fantasy football. Week in and week out for 16 weeks the grind is vigorous. Do is start him or sit him? Will he play or not? How will this matchup work out? All these questions are born because of my sacredness of the ordinary, and it is fantasy football
You might think this precious thing is ordinary, but it's not. It is more than a game. It's a lifestyle. The trash talk, the trades, the injuries, and most of all, the draft. My favorite part of fantasy football is the draft. I like the draft because it's the single event that dictates your entire season. With the first overall selection of the draft I chose Jamal Charles. I then traded him and Julien Edelman for Jordy Nelson and le'veon bell. I then talked trash about how I screwed my trading partner over. But little did I know, Jordy Nelson tore his ACL days after the trade. In fantasy football anything is possible. Injuries, trades, free agency, all of these factors are why I love fantasy football.
I am the commissioner my league . The league is called the, " Woburn Fantasy Football," or ,"WFF". The league has 12 teams. Out of the 12 people , only one of us will win. The winner wins $120, as everyone pitches in $10 to play. One of my fellow classmates Bryant Keatley is in the league. He had a nice team until he made some stupid trades with me. He is currently 0-3, where as I am 3-0. The league is one of the best leagues I've ever played in.
Monday, Thursday, and Sunday. What do they all have in common? Football. After my hockey practices, I always make time for TNF. On Sundays, from 1 P.M. To 11 P.M., it is strictly football for me. I constantly refresh my yahoo fantasy football app, waiting to see if any of my players made a game changing play. My first priority on game days is my patriots. The patriots always come first for me. Also, Monday night football is the most important game of the week. It is hope for the trailers trailing going into Monday, and the anguish in the players winning. Any thing can happen in Monday's. But then again, anything can happen at all times during fantasy football.
The Castillos are the fiercest team in he league. That is my team. At QB I have Tony Romo. My wide receivers are Brandin Cooks, A.J. Green, and Julio Jones. My running backs are Justin Forsett and Lamar Miller. Finally, my Tight End is Travis Kelce. My team is primed for big things this year. I am striving to have that $120 in my pocket by the end of this season. I will invest this $120 in a trophy for next year, which I will win for endless years to come .
